OAPs ARE SUP FOR PUB TRIP

Care Home residents Lord it up as they return to local

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

Heading to a favourite local for a pub lunch is one of life’s pleasures.

And for so long it was impossible for the residents of Elderslie Care Home.

But now they’re back, and the food is being washed down with some fine wine and lovely lager on draught.

The Elderslie gang have always enjoyed strolling to the nearby pub, The Lord Lounsdale, where the menu contains their favourite foods. The friendly staff are always happy to welcome Elderslie residents to join them for a wee tipple and a bite to eat.

The pandemic naturally put a stop to their regular visits.

But after a two-year gap, activities coordinator Jacqueline Minghella raised a cheer when she ruled: “Let’s get back down the boozer.”

And the staff team and the residents have relished their visits again.

Jacqueline said: “We know how much the residents enjoy getting out and about to the pub, so we’ve already taken two groups over to have their lunch. It takes about 20 minutes to walk via the cycle path to The Lord Lounsdale, and it’s a safe, pleasant route.

“The staff at the pub always welcome the residents with open arms, and they make sure everyone is comfortable and well-fed.

“It’s lovely to get back to normality again, and we know the residents have really enjoyed their visits.”

Elderslie, which is run by Advinia, has capacity for 120 people and sadly was one of the hardest hit by covid fatalities after hospital patients were admitted without being tested.

The Lord Lounsdale, on Lounsdale Road, serves up plenty of crowd-pleasing food, including mixed grills, burgers, fish and chips and pizza.

During their trip this week the residents treated themselves to beer and wine.

Jacqueline added: “We all took lovely lunches like this for granted before the pandemic. It’s great to be back in the community and enjoying our time at one of the nicest establishments in the area.”
