Hagg Bar A and Pockets A continue unbeaten streaks

-

Recently crowned Division 1 winners Hagg Bar A continued their winning ways this week with a solid 6-3 home win over Court Bar.

Their unbeaten season continues to look unstoppable and with just one game left to play they will be looking to complete a clean sweep of league matches for the season.

The defeat for Court Bar means they keep fifth spot for another week.

Clachan Arrows end the season with second spot in the table as their four point advantage means they cannot be caught.

They had the easiest of wins this week as Hagg Bar C couldn’t raise a team, so had to forfeit a 9-0 result.

Hagg Bar C now drop a place in the table to ninth and are in danger of being relegated.

Flying Horse secured third place in Division 1 as they too enjoy a four point advantage over their nearest rivals.

They also enjoyed a 9-0 walkover result as Railway Inn B couldn’t put together a team for their match.

Fourth spot in the table has also been decided as The New Saints enjoyed a very strong 6-3 away win at Railway Inn, with the win putting them six points ahead of Court bar in fifth and keeping the Railway team in sixth spot.

All eyes will be on Court Bar as they play Railway Inn in the last game of the season with the winner claiming fifth place.

Arthurlie Inns keep a hold of seventh place after an impressive 6-3 away win over Kelburne Cricket Club, with the Cricketers moving up one place to eighth in the table as a result of winning three games.

The result puts Arthurlie clear of the relegation fight, but Kelburne are still in danger as they have a very slender one leg advantage over Hagg Bar C and they face league winners Hagg Bar A in the last match.

Division 2 winners Pockets A had a walkover 9-0 result when The Clachan Bar couldn’t get enough players for a team.

That saw Pockets extend their winning streak to 17 out of 17, with the in-form side now enjoying a ten point lead over their nearest rivals.

The pick of the games in the division was at Charleston Arms where they took on Gryffe Inn, with the winner claiming second spot and possible promotion.

In the end it was the home team that prevailed after some impressive results in the singles matches that set them up with a 4-2 lead.

They converted that into a win after bagging the first doubles game.

The match ended 5-4 to Charleston, and they now hold a two-point lead over Gryffe.

They do still face division winners Pockets A in the last game of the season though, so the promotion place may not be settled yet.

In fourth place in the table Keystone C had the game of the night as they travelled to play The Hazel Nuts and came away with both points after a very hard fought 6-3 win.

Three of The Hazel Nuts players hit 180’s during the game, as did Ryan McGregor for the winning team.

Tartan Rose share the same points total as Keystone C after a very close 5-4 home win over Pockets B, with the result keeping them in fifth place.

The game was very close throughout the night as Tartan Rose led 4-2 after the singles, but were pulled back to 4-4 in the first two doubles games.

The match wasn’t settled until the last doubles game when Kevin Byrne and Natalie McDougall took the match 2-0 to give their team the all-important points.

They share the same points as Keystone C but Keystone have a crucial five leg advantage going into the last game.

Keystone B were also climbers in this weeks table after they defeated Hazel Pirates in a 6-3 home win.

The win moves the Keystone team into seventh place and they now lead a group of three teams, all on 12 points.

They also have a seven leg advantage over eighth placed Pockets B, which could end up being vital for them.

There were 13 scores of 180 during this week’s games, with Hagg Bar A players Dean Fitch and Evander Stevenson bagging two each.

The fastest game of the week also came from Stevenson as he hit a 14 dart leg in his singles match, along with another leg of 18 darts.

The best finish of the week was at the match between the Hazel Nuts and Keystone C where Robert Gibson had a 140 checkout for The Hazel Nuts.

Teammate Michael Hughes also featured in all three highlights tables this week with a 180, an 18 dart leg and a 126 finish.

Next week sees the conclusion of this year’s Hagg Bar Trophy. In the semi-finals Clachan Arrows face Railway Inn, while holders Hagg Bar A take on The New Saints.
