A Renfrewshire village is supporting an exciting initiative to boost the recovery of Scotland’s live music industry.

Lochwinnoch Arts Festival is taking part in Scotland on Tour, which sees a host of live music being performed in venues off the beaten track.

Louis Rive and Archie played on Saturday, April 23 in the first gig of the project, while established jazz trio Jazz Forward will take to the stage at Lochwinnoch Golf Club on Saturday, May 14.

Made up of Marianne McGregor, Malcolm MacFarlane and Sophie Bancroft, as well as established media journalist Fiona Mactaggart, Jazz Forward showcases some of the most diverse musical talent in Scottish jazz.

Marianne said: “We’re delighted to be taking to the stage in Lochwinnoch and we can’t wait to come together as a group again and get people on their feet.

“We will be performing some exciting original music, so we’re really looking forward to showcasing it.

“It’s brilliant to see venues such as Lochwinnoch Golf Club open their doors to live entertainment.

“It’s something a bit different for performers and audiences and that really adds to the excitement of the night.”

Scotland on Tour will take place over a period of 12 months between April 2022 and 2023, supporting the creation of hundreds of concerts and performances at muchloved arts centres, town halls and community venues across Scotland.

More than 120 artists are set to perform at more than 100 venues as part of the initiative.

Arts Festival, said: “We are so delighted to support the Scotland on Tour initiative.

“It is so important for communities across Scotland to get back and help our wonderful musicians and all involved with the music industry after the dreadful pandemic where they had almost all their income and livelihoods affected.”

The year-long project, which has been created and managed by Active Events, was made possible by £750,000 of Scottish Government funding.

Director of Active Events, Lisa Whytock said: “This new initiative is a bold vision for recovery for Scotland’s live music industry and an opportunity for artists, promoters and technical crews to thrive once again.

“The backlog of postponed and cancelled shows over the last two years has made it very difficult for artists to book new concerts and this is where Scotland on Tour comes in, providing much-needed opportunities for exciting acts to showcase their music.

“Gig goers will also have the chance to see the best of Scottish music right on their doorstep.

“This will be particularly beneficial to underused venues and rural performance spaces where we will be breathing life back into these fantastic settings.”
