Brock hails Purple Army as he laments defeat

- REBECCA MCCALL

Clan defenceman Brock Beukeboom remains proud of the efforts of the Braehead-based team, despite a play-off quarter-final loss at the hands of Cardiff Devils.

The 30-year-old is enjoying the last of his time in Scotland before he returns home after a season that provided memorable moments.

And while he couldn’t fault the effort of what turned into a heartbreaking weekend, the overall disappointment continued to gnaw at him.

“We gave ourselves the best chance to win so for that, it sucks,”he said.

“If we’d played a lot worse, it would have felt worse. We were the better team and that’s just hockey sometimes.

“The guys have done brilliantly over the last few weeks and while we would have loved to make it to Nottingham, we can be proud of what we’ve done this season.

“Winning in Cardiff on Saturday was huge and I felt we were the better team for most of the game on Sunday, but you can’t win a game if you don’t score.”

Beukeboom also paid tribute to the Purple Army, who have made themselves loud and proud all through the season.

And he spoke of the scenes outside Ice Arena Wales last Saturday where he and his team-mates were greeted by the fans after winning the first leg 4-3.

“Coming out of Cardiff’s arena on Saturday was one of the wildest fan experiences I’ve ever had in my career,”he added.

“They’ve been there for us all year and everyone is fully agreed on that.

“They had a full section in Cardiff, sang the whole game then came home after a nine-hour bus trip and did the same thing again.”
