FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR ROBINSON

- BEN RAMAGE

Stephen Robinson is powering ahead with his summer transfer plans now St Mirren have retained their Premiership status.

The Buddies boss revealed he now has four new recruits signed on the dotted line to strengthen his squad, with goalkeeper Trevor Carson and midfielders Mark O’Hara and Keanu Baccus all set to join when their current deals expire.

With several of the current squad’s futures still up in the air, Robinson revealed he’s got his eye on at least another two additions to ensure his side are ready for another top-six tilt next season.

Robinson told Express Sport: “We’ve got four pre-contracts signed which we’ll announce over the coming weeks.

“All four will strengthen the squad and enhance what we’ve already got. I believe we need a couple more, maybe three, so there’s still more business to be done. Especially when the market opens up in England.

“Boys are going to sign precontracts with other clubs. There’s those who have turned down contracts with us and those who have signed new ones with us.

“We’ve waited until we’re 100 per cent safe and now we’re looking towards next season.

“Every club is the same. We’re all in a bit of limbo but there’s no complaints.”

St Mirren head into their clash with Livingston tonight short of numbers yet again, with several first-team players still out injured.

The situation is exacerbated by the number of young players who have now finished their seasons in the lower divisions but are unable to play, a situation Robinson admits is seriously frustrating.

He said: “We’ve had so many out on loan and even though their season’s finished they can’t now play for us.

“Now would be the ideal time to put them in the team and have a look at them for next season. But we’re unable to do that, so they’re training with us but unable to play.

“We’ll be running with the same 14 fit players we’ve had recently, which is really frustrating. You want to see the youngsters in the first team.

“Instead we’re going beneath those loan players to the 16-year-old’s, who are only just starting out on their careers.”

While top-flight survival is now secured, Robinson is still determined to see the Buddies finish their season in style.

Making it three wins on the spin this evening would certainly help boost the positive feeling that’s only recently returned to the

SMISA Stadium.

Robinson added: “We’re looking to build on what’s been done recently. We’ve got two big results in a pressure situation and now it’s about building for next season.

“We owe it to the fans for sticking with us all season to finish it off in style.

“I had no doubt we’d have Premiership status next season.”
