‘We’ll add to misery for Dons’

- BEN RAMAGE

Stephen Robinson says his Saints have “no fear”heading to Pittodrie as they look to capitalise on Aberdeen’s horrendous run of form.

The Dons have suffered 5-0 and 6-0 drubbings at the hands of Hearts and Hibs respectively in their last two Premiership games. Those thrashings sandwiched a historic Scottish Cup shock defeat to West of Scotland League side Darvel that ultimately cost manager Jim Goodwin his job.

The Buddies can further cement their place in the Premiership top six with a win at Pittodrie this evening. A victory would move them four points clear of the Dons with a game still in hand on the north-east club.

And Robinson believes his Buddies can inflict even more misery on caretaker boss Barry Robson’s men if they stick to their game plan tonight.

He told Express Sport:“There’s a good atmosphere around the squad after another very good result on Saturday against Motherwell.

“We go up to Pittodrie with absolutely no fear. We know what we do and if we stick to our game plan we’re confident we can get points.

“You never like to see people lose their jobs, especially a good guy and a good manager like Jim. That’s the industry we work in unfortunately, it can be horrible and I’m thankful I’ve still got a job here today.

“I think Aberdeen still have very good players. They’ve invested heavily so we won’t be underestimating them at all. They’ve got good individuals that can win matches in a second. So, we have to be right at the top of our game.

“They’ve got a great home record. Our away record has started to improve but can still get better.”

St Mirren endured a further injury blow earlier this week when Richard Tait suffered a setback from his groin complaint. That followed news that striker Jonah Ayunga will be out for several weeks with the knock he picked up against Motherwell.

In more positive news, goalkeeper Trevor Carson has recovered quickly from a hand injury picked up at the weekend and will be fit to start this evening.

Robinson said:“We’re worried about Jonah, it’s safe to say that.

“The best case scenario would be that he’s out for a few weeks. Keanu [Baccus] is back from suspension which is a boost. Trevor is thankfully okay and that’s a huge boost because he’s been excellent for us over the last few games.

“Richard has broken down again. It’s the same problem as before with his groin. He’s had a setback so will return to the specialist and we might need to shut him down for three or four weeks again to allow him to recover.”
