Choirs set to team up for first time for Abbey concert
Thomas Coats Memorial Choral Society (TCMC) and Paisley Philharmonic Choir (PPC) are collaborating for the first time in performing a concert together at Paisley Abbey.
Both choirs are long established adult choirs in the Paisley area: Coats Choral was established in 1980 and took the name of the church where they rehearsed and performed for many years and PPC were formed in 1989.
As with many choirs, both were hit hard by Covid-19 and the restrictions on singing.
TCMC had to cancel their 2020 concert on the day of the concert when the orchestra withdrew due to concerns about risk.
They returned to meeting for a short period in 2022 but did not perform a concert.
PPC have had a limited programme since their return in 2022.
Both choirs had reduced memberships and were uncertain about the future and in addition TCMC had no musical director.
That changed in November 2022 and, following discussions between the office bearers of each choir, they agreed to collaborate to perform a concert together this month.
The concert will take place at Paisley Abbey on Sunday, March 19 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £12 and are free for anyone in full-time education. They can be bought on the door, from choir members or online at trybooking.co.uk/CDQJ
Joanna Boddy, secretary of the Thomas Coats Memorial Choral Society said:“Rehearsals have been going well and we are now in the final countdown to the concert. We have so much enjoyed being back singing together and are delighted to have recruited new members to each choir. We hope that our concert will be well supported by local music lovers who will share our delight at a return to a more normal life and being able to attend concerts!”
