A popular Paisley bar owner has bid farewell to his family business after 22 years of operating.

The Lane, which could be found on Paisley’s famous Shuttle Street, has been home to the pub since 2001 and recently celebrated its last night.

In a social media post that was filled with emotion, owner John Codona described the bar as “part of our family” while reminiscing about its previous incarnations as Suburbia and Penny Lane.

Thanking Buddies for being “part of the journey”, he said: “From Suburbia to The Lane, it’s been an emotional journey full of ups and downs for me and my family.

“It’s been a massive part of my life. “I have worked in Suburbia, Penny Lane and The Lane Paisley, and its quirks will always be part of me.

“From judging the pole dancing competitions in the ‘00, to the amazing New Year’s Eve events of recent years.

“But most of all, it’s about the people I’ve had the pleasure to meet along the way.

“The colleagues and customers who have become friends and shaped my life - I will always tell the stories you have made me part of.

“But it’s definitely time for someone else to create some magic in this amazing and unique venue.”

John added: “Paisley, we were lucky to be part of your journey and your history, but the future belongs to the bold.

“In a sad, happy turn of events we will be handing over the reigns to a new family.”

The new venue, named Shuttle, will look to bring a fresh approach to the famous street with it promising to bring live sports, new food, a brand new look and even a Venom Bar just in time for Easter.

With the decision to hand over The Lane an emotional one, John felt the Scottish Business Agency were best to handle the selling of his beloved business.

He said “The guys at SBA had a fresh and unfazed approach to selling my business.

“They completely understood how frustrating and personal a deal like this can be for the seller and made the process as easy as possible.”

John wished the new owners every success with their new venture, adding: “Good luck John, Laura, James, and Michelle – I hope 7 Shuttle Street will be as special to you guys as it has been to me.”

The date of the launch of Shuttle is set to take place on March 24 .
