Hazel Nuts crack Keystone to keep title hopes alive

-

Paisley and District Darts League suffered a few setbacks this week with coronavirus and transport issues causing the postponement of three games and the cancellation of another.

Despite that, there were still some exciting games as t teams jostled for league positions. In Division One leaders Hagg Bar A had no game as their match with Arthurlie Inns was postponed, as was the much-anticipated game between Pockets A and The Clachan Arrows who sit in second and third spots respectively.

The games being postponed meant the top three places remained as they were, with Hagg Bar A still out in front of the other teams by two points. Court Bar played host to Hagg Bar C looking to further cement fourth spot.

They managed to do so just thanks to a 6-3 home win, helped in no small terms by John Hurrel who in his doubles game with Murray Houston had a 180 in the first leg, followed by a 171 in leg two to win 2-0 and take the points for his team.

The other game in Division One saw Gryffe Inn A play Flying Horse and it was the Barrhead team that came away the happier side as they ran out 7-2 winners, despite Gryffe Inn A captain Sam Wright scoring three maximums.

In Division Two the top four teams all played each other and at the top of the table The Hazel Nuts returned to winning ways with a 5-4 home win over Keystone to keep their title hopes well on track.

Keystone stay in second place, but only on leg difference as third placed Keystone B came away with a crucial two points after a 6-3 home win over Tartan Rose.

Midton Bowling Club keep a hold of fifth spot after The Clachan Bar couldn’t raise a team and gave away a 9-0 whitewash result.

They are currently four points away from Tartan Rose but will be looking to close that gap when they meet next week.

The last game in the division saw the first win of the season for Gryffe Inn (City) as they ran out 5-4 winners in an away game at Pockets B.

The win puts them up one pace into seventh place, leaving the Clachan Bar in eighth spot.

There were nine maximums this week, with Keystone’s George Millar hitting three while Keystone B player Scott Henderson Jr also got two.

The fastest game of the night came from Flying Horse player Kieran Adams with a brilliant 13 dart leg. The best finish of the night came from Keystone B’s David Rayner, checking out on 100.

Next week sees another round of league fixtures played, with the game of the night looking to be in Division One between The Clachan Arrows and Court Bar.

In Division Two the top four teams take on teams in the bottom half of the table and will be looking to score big to boost their chances of promotion.
