Summer events bring people together
In a speech made at the weekend, Labour leader Keir Starmar said he “doesn’t care” if the party’s priorities sounded Conservative.
Starmer may not care if he sounds Conservative, but people in Renfrewshire who have suffered terribly at the hands of Tory governments they have never elected will be rightly horrified by this.
The shameful record of the Tories is not something to be celebrated or mimicked, they have caused untold damage to communities in Scotland as they’ve forced millions into poverty with their horrific austerity programme.
The closer Starmer gets to Downing Street the further he gets from Labour’s values.
It’s clear pro Brexit Labour offers nothing to the people of Scotland but the continuation of hated Tory policies like the Brexit we never voted for and draconian antiprotest laws, and if given the keys to Downing Street Starmer will be just as bad for Scotland as Sunak and his predecessors have been.
The question on voters’ lips in Scotland will rightly be what exactly does Keir Starmer stand for?
Scotland doesn’t need another Tory government, it needs a permanent escape from red and blue Westminster Tory rule with the full powers of independence.
It is plain to see the SNP are the only party offering real change, with the full powers of independence and full EU membership.
I love this time of the year and getting to visit all the different summer events around Paisley and Renfrewshire South.
I particularly enjoy visiting local gala days and fetes, days like this, where communities can come together are so important and it’s always so impressive to see how much effort has gone into the events whether that’s through the organisers themselves, local groups, organisations and charities, as well as local schools.
I’m really looking forward to kicking it off with Lilias Day in Kilbarchan, they always put on a great day for the whole family.
My priority will always be the people of Renfrewshire and making sure those that need assistance can come to me for help.
Before the global pandemic I carried out street surgeries across every community in Paisley and Renfrewshire South.
I am happy to say I will be carrying out street surgeries again from Paisley to Lochwinnoch and everywhere in between.
Along with my regular surgeries the street surgeries are a chance for me to visit you in the comfort of your home to raise any issues you have with me.
Keep a look out for me visiting your area very soon. I understand that not everyone can make it along to a constituency surgery or that they will be available for a street surgery however if you ever have an issue that you need my support with please get in touch with me by email at mhairi.black.mp@parliament.uk or on the phone 0141 571 4370.
