Pop-up covid jab clinics offering protection

-

Pop-up Covid-19 vaccine clinics will open again at venues across Renfrewshire this weekend.

The spring booster vaccine is being made available to all those aged 75 and over as well as those aged 12 and above with a weakened immune system.

It is hoped the jab will offer the most vulnerable in society added protection against the virus which first hit just over three years ago.

The first drop-in clinic opens tomorrow at Renfrew Leisure Centre between 10am and 7pm.

It will then reopen between the same times on Saturday.

On Sunday, a second clinic will open at The Lagoon Leisure Centre, in Paisley, also between 10am and 7.30pm.

Iain Kennedy, consultant in public health medicine, said the drop-in clinics offered flexibility to those who may be at work or studying.

He added:“Previous drop-in services have been a great success and we would ask those who are eligible to make sure they get vaccinated at the earliest opportunity.

“We would like to assure members of the public that they will be vaccinated safely and efficiently to avoid any long periods of waiting.”

Earlier this week, the requirement to wear face masks in health and care settings was removed by the Scottish Government as the nation is now in what is being described as a“calmer” phase of the pandemic.

The guidance took effect on Tuesday and was a return to pre-covid advice.

Mask wearing will be based on clinical need and infection prevention and control. It means staff, patients, service users and visitors will not be routinely asked to wear face masks in health and social care environments.

Chief Nursing Officer Alex McMahon said:“We continue to be vigilant in our response to Covid-19 and encourage everyone to make sure they are up to date with the boosters available to them. We are grateful for the tireless work of health and social care teams during these challenging times and to everyone who has helped them by adhering to the guidance.”

According to the National Records of Scotland, a total of 17,599 deaths had been registered in Scotland with covid mentioned on the death certificate.
