Youngster threatened to ‘cut open’ Kibble worker

- EMYLIE HOWIE

A young thug who was caught in a Paisley street with a knife went on to threaten to “cut open” a Kibble worker.

Ashawn Studholme was caught with a “large knife” in Paisley’s Storie Street and was verbally abusive towards cops who arrested him on January 14 last year.

The 18-year-old then threatened to slash a Kibble worker on August 31, 2022.

Procurator fiscal depute Michael Cunningham told Paisley Sheriff Court PCs Macintosh and Kerr were on plain clothes patrol around 11am on January 14, last year when they had reason to approach Studholme.

Mr Cunningham explained: “The accused was asked if he had any sharp objects in his possession that might hurt officers searching him. He shook his head and said ‘no.’

“PC Kerr began to search the accused and zipped down the accused jacket which revealed he had a large knife tucked into the left side of his waistband.”

Court heard PC Kerr took the knife and threw it to the side and Studholme was put in the prone position and handcuffed.

Mr Cunningham added: “The accused then started to act aggressively and shout abuse at the police officers.

“He shouted, ‘Go f**k your mammas bruv’ and ‘Suck your mother bruv.’

“The accused was placed into the rear of a police van and when asked for his details he replied, ‘f**k you’.

“Studholme was taken to Govan police station where he was released on an undertaking.”

Mr Cunningham then told the court Studholme then threatened to stab a Kibble staff member in August last year.

He explained: “Staff members Hicks, Cochran and Welsh were in their employment when Studholme walked out of the unit after an argument with the staff.

“Hicks and Cochran followed the accused out to Goudie Street, when he made threats towards Welsh stating, ‘He better change his attitude or I’m going to cut him open. I’ll smash him. That’s minor to me, I don’t care.’

“On returning to the unit, the accused became hostile towards the three staff members and reiterated his previous threat stating, ‘you better change your attitude or I’ll stab you’ towards Welsh.

“Studholme then lunged towards Hicks and spat in his direction.

“Police were contacted who arrived and took statements.

“The accused was informed he would be reported to the children’s reporter.”

Defence agent, John Gardiner explained Studholme, who appeared in the town’s court from custody was on remand for other matters.

Mr Gardiner deferred mitigation for the preparation of reports.

Sheriff Gillian Craig deferred sentence for reports until June 28.
