Students show off their creativity at digital printers

-

West College Scotland HNC graphic design and animation students got to pay a special visit to digital print company McAllister Litho Glasgow.

As a contrast to their digital work, students were shown how one of their creations could come to life as printed material.

They were given an in-depth technical description on how to set up their files correctly for print and then shown how the digital file is converted into printing plates and viewed the very impressive large printing presses in action.

The tour was completed with a showcase of the wide range of finishes and final touches that can be achieved through print work.

Graphic design lecturer Debbie Dennett commented:“I can’t thank Janette and Scott enough for talking the students through the high-tech facilities and impressive workflow that was on display to us at MLG.

“It’s so important for graphic designers to understand the process that printers play in the creative industries and seeing such varied types of production has really opened the students’eyes to the possibilities of what you can create in print.”

Managing director Janette McAllister added:”We were thrilled to have the opportunity to host the group of students and provide them with a tour of our facilities.

“Our aim was to bring the world of print to life for them, and we hope that the experience showcased the exciting possibilities that print offers.

“It was a pleasure to share our knowledge and expertise with the students, and we hope that the tour sparked their curiosity and enthusiasm for the print industry.”
