MAMMOTH CHARITY CHALLENGE

- CARLA TALBOT

At the age of 25, Ryan Kidd has already celebrated achievements others his age could only dream of.

The young Paisley businessman has scaled the world’s highest mountain and taken on gruelling challenges for charity alongside his dad Stevie as part of their business helping people to transform their lives.

His latest feat in April last year saw the inspirational lad take part in the 10 Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Sepsis Trust UK in memory of his fiance Beth’s dad, who tragically died in 2018 after contracting the deadly disease.

Ryan scaled the 10 highest Munros in the country within 24 hours, raising an amazing £14,500 for the organisation.

Ryan told the Express: “I really wanted to do it for Beth. I sadly never got to meet her dad but I know it was a really difficult thing for them all.

“He was a firefighter and no one expected it, and it really shows how dangerous of a disease sepsis is.

“It meant a lot that I managed to raise the amount I did, and I really felt like I was spreading awareness as I had so many people talk to me about my challenge and say they didn’t understand the signs and symptoms of sepsis – so that was really important to me.”

It was this herculean effort that inspired Ryan to take on his next challenge in which he hopes to help support youngsters living at an orphanage in Tanzania.

Alongside his dad and a team of climbers in June last year, Ryan visited the Msmaria Centre for Street Children ahead of their climb up the 5,895ft Mt Kilimanjaro, where he and his fellow climbers spent time with the 75 children living there.

The orphanage is located in a region at the foot of the world’s largest mountain and provides education and care for children from aged two to 20.

“It was really emotional. These are the happiest children you will ever meet and it just makes you really appreciate life,” said Ryan.

“I just knew after meeting with them and spending time with them that there must be something that I could do to support them.”

Ryan decided he would take on another gruelling climbing challenge – only this time he would be taking on 20
