Celebrate 50years ofnature reserve

-

Lochwinnoch RSPB is set to hold an open day this weekend to mark a very special milestone.

On Saturday, RSPB Lochwinnoch will be celebrating an incredible 50 years of the nature reserve – with lots of fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

Kids can go wild in the natural play area, walk the fairy path or bang out a tune in the acoustic play area.

Families can take part in the ‘Big Birthday Bash’ selfled activity.

Little ones should keep their eyes peeled as they explore the trails and they may spot some wild party animals!

This fun activity will be half-price at £1.75 per activity pack during the open day.

If you feel lucky, why not go to the tombola stall and see if you can win a prize?

All proceeds will help the reserve.

You could also make your own apple bird feeder for ‘crafty kids’ to take home.

Alternatively, why not just stroll along the woodland path then visit the boardwalk and enjoy the wildlife and fantastic scenery?

There are a network of accessible paths which allow visitors to explore the Aird Meadow and Barr Lochs along with hides and viewing platforms that offer breathtaking views over the wetlands.

Parking is free throughout the day and the shop will sell hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and snacks.

The open day is running from 9.30am to 4pm.

In December 1973, RSPB Scotland acquired the wetland site.

Now, 50 years later, it has become a flagship nature reserve having welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors over the years.

It is one of the largest wetlands in south-west Scotland and a significant part of the Castle Semple and Barr Loch SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), as well as an important part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.
