THISTEAMCAN PUTUSONMAP Dunne is in no hurry to move on

SAINTS ARE HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS

Charles Dunne hopes St Mirren’s stellar season can help put Scottish football on the map.

The big Londoner is currently in his seventh year north of the border.

Dunne made almost 80 appearances for Motherwell during a fouryear spell with the Steelmen between 2017 and 2021.

The 31-year-old then put pen to paper on a deal with the Buddies and would be reunited with former Fir

Park boss

Stephen Robinson just over two years ago.

And Dunne is in no hurry to return home as Saints push for back-to-back topsix finishes and potential European football. “I wasn’t really sure if I would stay up here this long,” the defender, left, said.

“I was open to coming up here but I didn’t really know too much about Scotland. I’ve came up, enjoyed it and done quite well and that’s why I am still here.

“Some of my old school friends ask when I am coming back down, but people down in England don’t really know about Scottish football.

“We just have to get it on the map as much as possible because it is good up here.

“I came up here blind but I knew the manager from before. I didn’t know what to expect but I was surprised at how good it was.”

Dunne hailed gaffer Robbo for building a hungry squad which is thriving in the spotlight.

He added: “We’ve got people from everywhere in that dressing room. It’s like a rainbow in there, it’s good.

“It’s the best dressing room I’ve been in, 100 per cent.

“We had a good one at Motherwell and I think that’s what the gaffer is good at. He’s good at selecting personalities and doesn’t just look at the player.

“He checks their background to see if they will fit in and everyone has just slotted in.”

Meanwhile, the club yesterday confirmed that over 1,000 tickets have already been sold for the crunch clash with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday, March 16.
