A mystery father and son duo from Paisley are the voices behind a new Aardman animation.

The BBC on Friday launched the ‘Things We Love’ campaign in a bid to highlight the role it plays in people’s leisure time.

In the series of heart-warming animated films, real BBC audience member’s voices and unscripted conversations are matched with charming stop-motion clay characters, created by the independent studio, Aardman, of Wallace and Gromit fame.

The dialogue in the films is the audience members’ own descriptions of things they love on the BBC.

Among them is a pair of dogs riding in the back of a car, voiced by a father and son from Paisley.

They talk about their shared love for the BBC One programme Race Across the World.

Other characters in the three films released on Friday are a family of Casualty, BBC News and Sport mad hamsters from Port

Talbot in Wales and a family of foxes from Birmingham who can’t get enough MasterChef.

The families in the films were found through the BBC’s audience engagement programme, which interviews hundreds of people across the UK every year on their views about the BBC to ensure audiences are at the heart of everything we do.

Rhodri Talfan Davies, director of nations said: “In this film, we see the connection we all share with the BBC and it is a joy to see our shared experiences unfold on screen, reminding us what the BBC truly means to each of us.”

Charlotte Moore, BBC chief content officer added: “We have a long standing relationship with Aardman, and as ever their brilliantly distinctive creative flair is stamped all over these charming films.

“I think Aardman has perfectly captured the essence of the affection we know audiences across the UK feel for our programmes, and I hope they make everyone smile.”

The first three films were broadcast on BBC One before The One Show on Friday, March 8, and will appear across the BBC throughout 2024.

The films will also run in cinema, on YouTube and across social media.

And Friday night’s One Show at 7pm on BBC One took a behind the scenes look at how the films were made and introduced audiences to some of the voices behind the films.

Three further films representing other parts of the UK will be released later this Spring.
