Better for promotion

standings with the gap to the promotion spots 10 points.

McKim’s men do have a number of games in hand on the sides above them but defeats to Kilbirnie Ladeside and Drumchapel United, alongside the stalemate with Glens, have started to chip away at the margin for error.

Indeed, Burgh face a packed schedule when the lighter nights arrive as they catch up on fixtures which were postponed because of poor weather and cup ties taking precedent.

And McKim knows where it all needs to improve.

“I thought it was a poor game and there wasn’t much quality,” the manager told club media afterwards.

“Rutherglen came in a shape that we struggled to break down. When they took the lead, which again was an unbelievably soft goal from our point of view, it makes it difficult for us.

“We made a few changes at half-time to try and take the game to them. When we scored, I thought we’d be a wee bit more on top and on the front foot but a draw was the fair result. We didn’t deserve to win the game.

“Ultimately, I’m really disappointed as in this league with what our aspirations are, we need to be putting more points on the board.

“I’m disappointed, the players are disappointed but there is only one way out and this is working together.

“We need to be harder to play against, we need to stop giving cheap goals away and we need to pose more of a threat in the final third.

“The last three games in the league we’ve picked up one point which isn’t good enough for us in terms of the ability and talent we’ve got in the dressing room.”

McKim shuffled his pack for the visit of Glens as he searched for a winning formula.

He said: “The way we’ve been the last few weeks, there had to be changes. I had to see something different.

“I wanted to see more of a goal threat but I don’t think we saw that. I didn’t want to see the soft, cheap goals we’ve been conceding continue, but it has.

“We need to take responsibility for that and for the group we have in this building, I expect much, much more.

“I know we’ve got a few injuries and some players are playing out of position but let’s be honest, the majority of the clubs at this level could say the same thing. We need to deal with that better.”
