PRIMARY HAILED AS SEAT OF LEARNING

The quality of education delivered at Brediland Primary School in Paisley has been praised following a visit by a watchdog.

Education Scotland inspectors scrutinised two areas of work with the school achieving ‘good’ evaluations in both.

The categories of ‘raising attainment and achievement’ and ‘learning, teaching and assessment’ were judged to show that there are important strengths within the school’s work.

It was noted by inspectors that staff across the school “promote positive, trusting relationships and create calm and purposeful learning environments”.

The inspectors stated staff work well together to ensure children and families feel a strong sense of belonging.

Other highlights include kids are proud of their school and they demonstrate an eagerness and motivation to learn. It was also stated that they “are kind and respectful to each other, adults and visitors”.

Another key strength was staff across the school know children and their families very well with a range of support to reduce barriers to children’s learning. Inspectors also noted senior leaders have led “effective improvements” in the teaching of literacy and numeracy – as a result, most children are making good progress in their learning.

The school was praised as senior leaders correctly identified a decline in levels of attainment, particularly at early and first levels over time.

Attainment begins to increase as children progress through second level.

Inspectors were happy that senior leaders have “effectively led improvements in teaching reading, writing and numeracy recently”.

Areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the head teacher and a representative from Renfrewshire Council.

One area was that senior leaders should continue to review their processes for checking how well children progress and attain over time.

And staff should continue to improve approaches to planning assessment and moderation of learning and teaching.

Inspectors stated they were “confident” the school has the capacity to continue to improve and will make no further visits in connection with this inspection.

Brediland Primary School has a roll of 192 pupils organised across nine classes. In addition, a flexible learning resource (FLR) provides full and part-time support for kids from mainstream schools across Renfrewshire Council. It comprises of two classes.
