Big day looms for WoSFL teams

It’s a huge day at the bottom of the West of Scotland League

Premier Division – with four of the five strugglers facing each other.

Arthurlie welcome Troon to Dunterlie this afternoon desperate to notch up a fifth league win of the season.

A triumph for Colin Reilly’s men will drag the Seasiders into the mire and could see the Barrhead outfit climb to safety if rock-bottom Irvine Meadow shock Kirkintill­och Rob Roy.

In the First Division, Johnstone Burgh are looking for a first win in four league games when they travel to Glasgow to face St Roch’s.

Jamie McKim’s men are 10 points off the promotion spots but are comforted by having a stack of games in hand towards the end of the season.

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed two of those matches will be played at the home of Lowland League side Albion Rovers in North Lanarkshir­e.

Cliftonhil­l in Coatbridge will stage Burgh’s clash with Thorniewoo­d United on Wednesday, March 27 and the match against Cambuslang Rangers on Wednesday, April 3.

At the other end of the table, Neilston do have games in hand but are seven points adrift of safety when they head to Rutherglen Glencairn this afternoon.

The Farmer’s Boys have said farewell to striker Darren Jones who has joined Fourth Division Thorn Athletic until the end of the season.

In the bottom tier, Glenvale and Thorn will be looking to get back to winning ways after defeats last weekend.

Thorn, a point behind leaders ‘Vale, are on the road at BSC Glasgow while the table-toppers head to St Peters who play their first match since boss John Dalziel’s departure.

■ICE HOCKEY: Glasgow Clan tonight begin a weekend double header with Manchester Storm visiting the Braehead Arena tonight in the Elite League.

A long trip will be made tomorrow with the Purple Army heading to South Wales to face Cardiff Devils who have already clinched a play-off berth.

Jason Morgan’s squad are currently seventh in the standings and three points clear of the bottom two positions which do not qualify for the post-season.

In the Scottish National League, sixthplace­d Paisley Pirates have two games in two days to look forward to this weekend.

First up is a trip to North Ayrshire Wild tonight before Kilmarnock Thunder arrive at the Braehead Arena tomorrow.
