Have a say on police station closures
Cop bosses are reminding people that the consultation period on the future of Paisley’s Mill Street and Ferguslie Park police stations ends this month.
Police Scotland announced in December that it was looking into the closure of numerous stations and buildings across the country as it seeks to cut costs.
Paisley’s Mill Street and Ferguslie Park police stations were two of the sites proposed for closure – prompting concerns from across the community.
Renfrewshire residents have until Sunday, March 31 to give their feedback on the proposals.
Police Scotland says closing the stations will allow them to invest more in technology – allowing officers to be more mobile and out in communities – and less reliant on being in a police station.
The organisation says the current buildings are not fit for purpose and are no longer suitable for modern policing.
It’s been suggested that there could still potentially be a police hub in the town if the closures go ahead, with the potential for sharing space with partner agencies such as Renfrewshire Council.
A spokesperson from the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Police Division said:“Our consultations on the future of Paisley and Greenock police stations will be closing in a few weeks and we’re keen to get your views before the consultation period ends on March 31. To read more about our proposals for Paisley and Greenock and submit your feedback before the closing date, see our engagement hub.
“All submissions to our consultation will be reviewed and used to help inform our decision-making process.
“We will look to communicate the next steps and any decisions made both internally and externally in due course.”
