Accord launches its first dragon boat race
A Renfrewshire hospice is on the hunt for teams to compete in its first-ever dragon boat race.
Accord Hospice is looking for budding rowers to join in the fun as it look to raise money for the Paisley site.
The dragon boat race will take place on Saturday, July 13 at Castle Semple Loch in Lochwinnoch.
Companies, clubs and organisations are invited along for what will be a good team-building opportunity whilst raising invaluable funds for the patients and families in Accord’s care.
Teams compete in dragon boats, which are large canoe-like vessels fitted with ornately carved dragon’s heads and tails.
No experience is required as full training will be provided on the day before the boats take to the water.
Teams of 10 can enter the race, with fancy dress encouraged and a prize for the best-dressed teams.
Each boat’s registration fee is £200, or £20 per person. Each team member must raise a minimum of £100 to take part or £1,000 per boat.
David McFadden, fundraising and communications manager at Accord, Hospice told the Express:“We are absolutely delighted to be hosting this highly-popular event right here in Renfrewshire.
“Whether you’ve got sea legs or are a complete novice, we hope to see you and your team on the beautiful loch at Castle Semple raising money for Accord.
“As a free service, we rely on your efforts to continue to provide vital end of life care for people in our community.”
