Going full scream ahead

- BEYOND PARADISE

BBC1, 8pm

A VINTAGE steam train is hurtling through a tunnel, it’s pitch black and there’s a scream.

Out of the tunnel, passengers are looking on in horror to see a man has been stabbed in the back.

It’s a dramatic start for this latest series of the Death in Paradise spin-off, which brings more picturesque South West scenery and mind-boggling cases for DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and team.

All is not as it seems, Humphrey and DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) are aboard the train, having been recruited by Margo (Felicity Montagu) to perform in her production of a Shipton Abbott Players’ murdermystery play.

But then during their final rehearsal, on the way through another tunnel, the murdered character is genuinely, mysteriously murdered.

With a fatal crime taking place right under the noses of two detectives, the national press and police HQ alike are sent into a frenzy.

With added pressure continuing to mount from CS Charlie

Woods (Jade Harrison) on the status of the small station house, a fast resolution is demanded.

While they tackle the murder, PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) has his own case to crack, that of a ‘peeping Tom’... but could this seemingly routine call-out lead to more than Kelby could have imagined?

Meanwhile, deciding she wants another shot at love, Anne (Barbara Flynn) catapults herself into the world of online dating, lining up a date at home.

But is Martha (Sally Bretton) ready to accept her mother’s desire for companionship? A charming, thoroughly British, cosy crime drama.
