Cooper’s goal

FROM BACK PAGE now and we’re just not getting that rub of the green that the strikers need.”

One player who is chipping in with a lot of goals for Saints is Ceara Macintyre who bagged her side’s only goal of the game, to take her tally for the season up to 11.

“She did really well to play on Sunday because she took a big knock in the Stenhousemuir game and was carrying a bit of an injury,” said Cooper. “But we need more than one striker to be firing them in.”

However, ever the optimist, Cooper is looking forward with a positive attitude, saying the club is about to set off on a memorable end to the season.

“The players never really remember what happened in the earlier part of the season, it’s these two months now that are going to stick with them.

“And it’s a really good time to either reset and rest or grow, and that’s how we plan to go into it. We can be proud of the developments we’ve made this season, which has been a bit of a transitional one, but we’re ensuring the future of the club with the development of our pathways and the club for the first time really feels like a family and that will stand us in good stead for the future.”

Joining St Mirren – who finish in eighth place – in the bottom-half split will be Dundee West who finished bottom of the league, Giffnock, who have finished ninth, Airdrie Ladies in seventh, and the final team to join them will be either Edinburgh Caledonia or Queen of the South Ladies who are currently level on points, with Edinburgh having two games left to play and Queen of the South having one more. The fixtures will be announced after the final games of the regular season are complete.
