Plaster it Purple for children’s hospital

- EMYLIE HOWIE

Kind-hearted kids at a Renfrew primary school planned a special purple day to raise funds for charity.

Arkleston Primary pupils organised a ‘Plaster it Purple’ day in aid of Glasgow Children’s Hospital after the school noticed there was a number of students who had been involved in some way with the facility.

On the day, pupils and staff dressed head to toe in purple to raise funds for a cause also close to the heart of primary one teacher Kirsty Reid.

Ms Reid told the Express: “My own 12-month-old daughter had a three-week stay at the hospital over New Year, which really opened my eyes to the amazing work of the staff there and the charity that support them.

“With the children’s hospital impacting the lives of so many of us at Arkleston, it felt like the logical decision to have a day fundraising in aid of the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.”

There was a raffle to win an Easter hamper and a competition to ‘Guess the Bear’s Name’ to win a gorgeous Build-a-Bear.

The children worked hard to make friendship bracelets and sold them.

A popular station was the school’s very own spa where children could get their nails and faces painted.

And in order to keep the day fun and equitable for all pupils, there were some free events that everyone could participate in.

There was a Beat the Goalie, which was supported by staff at Glasgow Kelvin College while there was a fantastic donation from Tesco Renfrew which allowed the primary one pupils to ice purple cupcakes for the whole school.

Ms Reid added: “Our day has been a great success, further enhanced by the visit from Kami Bear from the Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

“The children absolutely loved meeting Kami and Kami even joined in getting their nails painted in our nail bar!

“The Glasgow Children’s Charity Hospital were amazing at helping us plan our day and supplying us with a fundraising pack full of decorations and buckets to support our efforts.

“We have had a fantastic day of fundraising at Arkleston, and although we don’t have our total amount yet, the day has been a complete success.

“The pupils, staff and families at Arkleston have been so incredibly generous and dug deep for a great cause.

“We really hope our donations help support the amazing work that the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity do for children .”
