WEST OF SCOTLAND LEAGUE LATEST

Battling Arthurlie showed they are up for the relegation scrap after pushing leaders Clydebank all the way.

The Barrhead men travelled to Holm Park on Saturday for their latest West of Scotland League Premier Division encounter.

And while ‘Lie lost 3-2, boss Colin Reilly, left, will have felt confident his side are good enough to stay up ahead of last night’s scheduled trip to fellow strugglers Glenafton Athletic.

Table-topping Bankies took the lead at the weekend through Alan Kelly who blasted home from the edge of the box.

Dylan Fletcher levelled for ‘Lie but the home side took a slender advantage into the break courtesy of Lee Gallacher’s superb solo effort.

In the 71st minute, Clydebank extended their lead when Ciaran Mulcahy struck. Jordan Leyden pulled one back for the Dunterlie men but they couldn’t equalise.

It was derby day in the First Division as Renfrew and Neilston fought out a 0-0 draw which was badly affected by a strong wind at New Western Park.

In the end, it was a better point for Jimmy Quigley’s side who are 10 clear of the relegation zone.

The Farmer’s Boys, meanwhile, remain at the foot of the standings and are six points adrift of safety with a game in hand on Maybole who sit just outside the danger area.

There is First Division action tonight with Johnstone Burgh facing Thorniewood United in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire.

In the Fourth Division, titlechasing Glenvale are seven points clear at the summit after a 4-2 victory at home to Knightswood.

Brian Connor bagged a brace at McKenna Park with Mark Jardine and Jamie Sidebotham also netting.

Thorn Athletic hold second place over Rossvale on goal difference after their game with Carluke Rovers was called off. St Peters were back in action and lost 3-2 at Royal Albert.
