Passengers warned of busy airport over break
Glasgow Airport has issued a travel warning ahead of an exceptionally busy Easter weekend.
The airport has said it is preparing for ‘one of its busiest periods of the year’as an expected 90,000 passengers are set to travel through the terminal for the start of the Easter break this weekend.
As the Easter weekend falls at the beginning of the school holidays, Glasgow Airport has said it is also gearing up for three‘exceptionally busy’weekends ahead.
Throughout the entire break, around 330,000 holidaymakers are expected to pass through the facility.
To accommodate the high number of travellers, the airport will have extra staff in place to help guide passengers, especially those with young children, through check-in and security.
There will also be entertainment on offer for younger departing passengers this weekend including a visit from the Easter Bunny, who will be on hand to dish out chocolate eggs.
Ronald Leitch, interim chief operating officer at AGS Airports, which owns Glasgow Airport, said: “After what has felt like a particularly long and rain-soaked winter, we anticipate the airport will be consistently busy during the next three weeks as hundreds of thousands of passengers head off for a well-earned break and the chance of some better weather.
“As this is the first prolonged school holiday of the year, the airport will be busier than usual with more than 23,000 passengers travelling through on each of our peak days.
“We would remind passengers to arrive at the check-in time specified by their airline and prepare for security in the usual way.
“Small steps such as this make a big difference when passengers are travelling through the terminal.”
Glasgow Airport is also reminding passengers to prepare for security as they normally would.
Liquids carried in hand luggage should be within the 100ml limit to help ensure a‘speedy’security process.
Many of those travelling through the airport will be heading to destinations including the Canary Islands, the Costas in Spain, Turkey, Cyprus and Dubai.
