Sav some of that! Marshall in MMA bid

-

NORTH East boxing champ Savannah Marshall is going to try MMA fighting. She will have her first fight in Newcastle on June 8.

Savannah is a Super Middleweight Boxing World Champion from Hartlepool. She will be the main event at the Utilita Arena. She will be switching out the 16 oz gloves for far lighter 8oz ones.

In addition to Marshall’s debut, the 2024 PFL Europe Regular Season continues, with Bantamweights and Women’s Flyweight beginning their “Path to Greatness” and looking to secure spots in the PFL Europe Playoffs this September. Participants and matchups to be announced shortly, reports Chronicle Live.

Peter Murray, PFL CEO said: “The Professional Fighters League prides itself on having the best athletes in the world on its roster and on June 8, PFL welcomes boxing world champion and combat sports Icon Savannah Marshall to the SmartCage for her MMA debut, where she will compete in front of her hometown fans in Newcastle.”

He also said: “Savannah and Claressa Shields competed in one of the most-watched women’s boxing matchups in history when they first fought, and now with Savannah’s MMA debut, the two are on a collision course for a rematch wearing four ounce gloves and settling the score in the PFL SmartCage.”

Marshall, the IBF, WBA, and WBO Super Middleweight Boxing World Champion, is set to make her MMA debut in the Women’s Lightweight division. The North East native, who has ten knockout victories in her boxing career, joined PFLW in 2023, a move that sent shockwaves through the world of combat sports.

Marshall will be competing alongside other top female fighters like Claressa Shields, Dakota Ditcheva, Amanda Serrano, and Hattan Alsaif in PFLW. This platform focuses on promoting women in combat sports and follows a merit-based approach.

The 2024 PFL Europe Season kicked off last month with a sold-out show in

Paris. The next event will take place at Utilita Arena in Newcastle, before heading to Glasgow for a night of playoff action at OVO Hydro on September 28.

The season will finish with a thrilling Championship event at a location yet to be revealed.
