Councillor pledges to keep an eye on a hole lot of craters
A pothole-ridden road in Bishopton will be kept under the watchful eye of an elected member after repairs were carried out by Renfrewshire Council.
Craters in Renshaw Road have been a source of frustration for residents, prompting half a dozen people to contact Councillor James MacLaren over the issue.
An inspector assessed the location and submitted a request for the potholes to be fixed, with the local authority saying it completed works on Monday.
However, Councillor MacLaren, a Conservative representative for the village, pledged to monitor the road after visiting on Tuesday afternoon and noticing a section still in need of attention.
He said: “Potholes can cause vehicle damage if they’re left and get deeper. Now that I’m aware of it, I will keep an eye on it until the job is done properly.
“I would have liked to put Renshaw Road forward for resurfacing in the capital works programme but by the time I learned of the problem, it was too late to include it.
“I will certainly be keeping on top of it until all of the potholes are filled and, come the end of the year, I will probably put it forward for resurfacing.
“Pothole filling doesn’t seem to last very long. It’s a stopgap until the road is resurfaced.”
A council spokesperson said: “When a pothole is reported to us, we send an inspector out to assess it and then arrange for it to be repaired as soon as possible.
“Our inspector raised a request for the potholes on Renshaw Road to be repaired and work was completed on Monday, April 8.
“We recognise the importance of providing a road network which is fit for purpose and safe for all road users.
“This year’s £5 million investment in our roads and footway programme adds to the £6.7m allocated last year – meaning almost £12m will be invested in our roads network over a two-year period.
“This builds on the record investment we’ve committed in recent years, which has shown to be successful through improved roads surfaces and footways and the number of potholes requiring repair reducing significantly.
“The latest local government benchmarking framework data revealed an improved performance for all road classifications in Renfrewshire.”
