Am I eligible for disability payment?

-

RENFREWSHIRE CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS

I want to claim Adult Disability (ADP) but have been told I’m not allowed because I’m over state pension age. One of my friends also gets his state pension and receives ADP, how does that work?

Adult Disability Payment is a disability payment that people between the ages of 16 up to state pension age can apply for.

You mentioned a friend of yours who receives his state pension and ADP.

It’s likely that your friend claimed ADP before reaching state pension age, or was transferred on to ADP from personal independence payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA), similar benefits for workingage people.

As you hadn’t claimed ADP, PIP, or DLA before you reached state pension age, you’re not able to make a new claim. You may however be eligible to claim attendance allowance which is a disability benefit for people over state pension age.

To find out more, and to request an application form you can visit www.gov.uk/ attendance-allowance or call 0800 731 0122.
