Beautician nails it for recognition

- EMYLIE HOWIE

A Paisley-based beautician has been shortlisted for three prestigious beauty awards.

Talented Andie Rankin has had a passion for all things beauty since she was a young girl and chose to pursue a career in beauty after leaving school.

Andie studied fashion makeup at the University of the West of Scotland’s Paisley campus for three years before going on to complete various training modules with professionals in the industry to learn how to do nail and eyelash extensions.

The 22-year-old who is based in StyleBar by Ashleigh in the town’s New Street, has only been in the industry for a year starting off just doing weekends while working in retail then gradually increasing her hours to four days.

Andie has been juggling her time but her hard work has paid off as she can now finally leave her second job in Marks and Spencer where she works three days a week and move to full time in the salon.

Andie told the Express: “I have always wanted to be a beautician, ever since I was young.

“I can remember doing a full face of makeup when I was like 15 just to go to Braehead with my friends.

“I didn’t think you could make a career out of it because at school you were encouraged to go to university and the industry wasn’t spoken about much.

“I started off just doing weekends and now I have my own room in the salon and will be going full-time.

“I’m dead excited to have been shortlisted for these three awards.

“It’s nice to have the recognition and from someone you don’t even know recognise the hard work I’ve put in.”

Andie is shortlisted in the ‘Rising Star’ category of the prestigious Health and Beauty Awards.

The awards applaud the visionaries and trailblazers who redefine beauty standards, push boundaries and shape the industry’s future with their unmatched talent and dedication.

“I’m just absolutely buzzing,” said Andie.

“The Health and Beauty awards are huge, they are UK wide, they are really big across the industry and to be shortlisted is just amazing.”

Andie, from Bridge of Weir, is also recognised in two categories at the Beauty Full Awards.

Andie features in the ‘Best Newcomer Nails’ category and the ‘Newcomer Makeup Artist of the Year’ award.

She added: “I am going full time in just a few weeks and to be shortlisted for these awards at the same time is amazing.

“When you work seven days a week and put in so much hard work it makes you emotional to be recognised.

“I am quite proud of myself and my hard work.

“When I found out I’d been shortlisted I just started crying.

“I only started out doing this last year and I’ve not looked back.

“But it’s nice now to know I’ve worked hard, I’ve got great clients who have all become friends and now have this recognition and it’s all paid off.”

The Health and Beauty Awards take place in Birmingham in June this year and the Beauty Full Awards will take place online in September.
