Pals team up to clean up park

-

Young Buddies showed they were pals of the environment as they joined Renfrewshire’s‘Big Spring Clean’.

Dozens of young people, led by Pals of the Privies, donned their gloves and bin bags to spruce up Glencoats Park.

The group, which was formed to help look after the Ferguslie Park green space, spearheaded the event.

Its Adventure Group – which meets once a week to explore and enjoy the local community – also took part in the operation, with youngsters of all ages doing their bit to clear the site of rubbish.

Karen Campbell, of Pals of the Privies, said the group’s young members are increasingly proud of their local community and their role in keeping it clean and tidy.

She said:“We always like to get involved in the Big Spring Clean but we carry out our own litter picks regularly and they feature as part of the Adventure Group’s weekly activities.

“Keeping the place today and having respect for the area are at the heart of all we do and we take every opportunity instil that in our young people.”

The Big Spring Clean is a Renfrewshire Council-led campaign which seeks to encourage people to organise a spring clean of their communities.

Supported by the local authority’s Team Up to Clean Up programme, the initiative offers residents all they need to do their own litter pick, with gloves, bin bags and a pick-up of the waste offered by council staff.

The current initiative runs until Tuesday, April 30. For more information or to organise a litter pick, email nicola. drummond@renfrewshire.gov.uk
