Hagg A leave it late but stay top of league

-

Hagg Bar A left it late to claim pole position in the Paisley and District Darts League Division One going into the final two games.

They notched up their 16th win of the season with a hard fought 5-4 win over Clachan Arrows, the game not being decided until the last doubles game where recently crowned doubles champions Andy Boulton and Dean Fitch took the points with a 2-0 victory. Hagg Bar A are four points clear at the top.

Pockets A are in hot pursuit, keeping close with a 5-4 away win at New Saints, another game which went all the way to the last doubles. John McCallum and Brian Maley were too good for their opponents and took the win 2-1 to leave them four points off top.

The Midton stay in fourth after a very close 5-4 home win over Arthurlie Inns. They are on the same points as New Saints but Saints have a better leg difference. Arthurlie Inns remain in ninth place and will drop to Division Two next season.

Court Bar keep hold of fifth place after cruising to a 7-2 home win over Hazel Nutz. Hazel Nutz remain tenth in the table and will be joining Arthurlie Inns in Division Two next season.

The last game of the night saw Keystone B play Flying Horse who took the points only after the game had reached the last leg of the last doubles. Davy Richardson and Mark Mackle ran out 2-1 winners, securing sixth place for their team. The loss for Keystone B keeps them in eighth spot, level with Clachan Arrows on points but 10 winning legs behind.

In Division Two Tartan Thunder are in line for promotion after a fine 6-3 home win over Keystone kept them top. Keystone rattled up a 3-0 lead in the singles, before the Thunder roared back and took the next three to level the game. After that the Tartan team never looked back and three wins in the doubles games secured the points. The loss for Keystone keeps them in ninth spot.

Hagg Bar C kept up the pressure on the leaders when they travelled to Clachan Bar and came away with both points after a 5-4 win. The points were decided after the singles matches but Clachan rallied and took the three doubles games and hold on to sixth place in the table.

Tartan Rose climbed a place to third after a 9-0 walkover result as Pockets C have now left the league.

Gryffe Inn drop a place into fourth even though they had a resounding 6-3 home win over Midton Bowling Club. They now sit level on points with Tartan Rose but the 9-0 for the Tartan team means they are now one winning leg behind them. The loss for Midton keeps them in seventh spot for the week.

The last game of the night saw Clippens Inn at home to Pockets B and it proved to be a close game with the score level at 2-2 after the first four singles.

Clippens then took the lead with the last two singles games, winning both 3-2. That gave them the platform they needed to go and close out the game and they won the second doubles to take the points. Clippens are fifth in the table, on the same points as Gryffe and Tartan Rose but with a four leg deficit. The loss for Pockets B keeps them in eighth place.
