Community service for bail breach man

-

A Renfrew man who breached two court orders has been ordered to carry out community service.

Naveed Abbas admitted he breached the curfew condition of his bail order just one day after it was made.

On September 11 last year at Paisley Sheriff Court, Abbas was granted bail on the condition he remained within his Marjory Road house between 7pm and 7am each day and present himself at the door when requested to do so by police.

But the following day, on September 12, Abbas breached the order by being outwith his home during the times imposed,

The 42-year-old then breached another term of a court order.

A bail order made on May 3 last year at the town’s court prohibited him from approaching or contacting Chelsea Cleisham or Dawn Irvine in any way.

But on September 12, 2023, Abbas breached the order by being in

Cleisham’s company in Paisely’s Waverley Road.

Defence agent Paul Lynch told the court Abbas pleaded guilty at the first calling of the case and explained:“Mr Abbas lives with his brother in Marjory Road and it is his submission that, on this date, Ms Cleisham attended uninvited and unwelcome.

“Trying to do the good citizen thing, he phoned her a taxi to take her home but to do so he had to go back to his brother’s house for funds when an incident happened in the taxi and the driver asked both Abbas and Cleisham to get out.”

Sheriff Thomas McCartney ordered Abbas to perform 75 hours of unpaid work in the community, which was reduced from 90 hours to reflect his guilty plea.

In addition to this, Abbas was made subject to supervision of the social work department for a period of 12 months.
