Child rape beast gets 10 years
A man has been jailed for 10 years after raping and abusing two young girls.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Kristofer Johnstone was sentenced for historical sexual offences in Renfrewshire, Glasgow and Argyll.
The 33-year-old, from Kelloholm, Dumfriesshire, preyed on the kids over 12 years from 2005 and 2017.
He was sentenced on Friday after previously being found guilty following a trial.
Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Police Division’s detective inspector Jan MacColl commented after the sentencing.
She said: “Johnstone abused the trust of these two children and I would commend the victims for coming forward and reporting his behaviour to us.
“Investigating events that have happened in the past can present challenges and it can sometimes only be with hindsight that people recognise that what happened to them was abuse.
“Police Scotland has highly trained, specialist officers, across the country who can investigate such offences and, working with partners, ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
“We are committed to investigating all reports regardless of when abuse happened, where it took place or who was involved. We will listen, we will investigate, and we will take prompt action to ensure that no-one else is at risk of harm.
“We would ask anyone wishing to report abuse to contact us on 101.”
Passing sentence at Friday’s hearing, judge Alasdair MacFadyen told Johnstone via video link:“The evidence of sexual abuse was overwhelming, alarming and distressing.
“As a teenager and an adult, you committed serious offences against young children. Your actions appeared motivated by your deviant sexual desires.”
Johnstone was put on the sex offenders’register indefinitely.
