Bowlers mark new season as Jim is rewarded

-

Ralston Bowling Club recently held an extra special open day to kickstart the new season.

On Saturday, April 13, members gathered in the rare sunshine to get the 2024 season underway.

And the occasion was made more special as member Jim Cullen was presented with a National Volunteer Award by Bowls Scotland for his dedication to the sport.

The Bowls Scotland National Volunteers Awards were launched in June 2021 following National Volunteer’s Week.

The award recognises people going the extra mile to help out and the Paisley club members felt it was only right that coach Jim was nominated.

Jim received his award on the day by Colin Reddy, who was representing Bowls Scotland.

A club spokesperson said:“Jim is a fantastic, dedicated volunteer whose contribution to the club and the wider community is outstanding .

“He delivers high-quality coaching on a regular basis.

“Jim regularly gives up his time to help develop and improve players. Club members who have been playing for many years have commented that the coaching sessions provided by Jim provide them with improved skills and confidence, allowing them to further develop their game.

“Jim also provides training sessions to junior members and is a great advocate for bowling at grass roots level.

“He delivers fun and progressive sessions for the young players using skills based practice.

“He is a positive role model and popular with the young players.

“He is an unsung hero in the local community and this is well deserved recognition.”

The first bowl of the season was thrown by Honorary Lady President Katrina Brown and, thereafter, members of the club’s junior section were also able to get involved in the action.

The Juniors play on Sundays at 1pm. Free coaching is available and all equipment supplied. All kids need are flat shoes. The Juniors also join in on club days.
