Tributes to political stalwart
Tributes have been paid following the death of a prominent Scottish Conservative office-bearer and candidate from Paisley.
Sheila Fulton, 70, passed away on April 7 after being diagnosed with cancer last year.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years Jack and their sons Stuart and Robert, and two beloved grandchildren.
Friends and colleagues say that Sheila was a respected stalwart of the Scottish Conservatives.
A font of knowledge and a proud Buddie, Sheila was an avid reader of the Paisley Daily Express.
She held almost every role within the Renfrewshire association over almost half a century. From treasurer and as election agent for many aspiring politicians, Sheila was sometimes persuaded to put her own name on the ballot paper.
She treated her cancer diagnosis with typical stoicism and quiet determination.
Councillor Neill Graham, Scottish Conservative group leader on Renfrewshire Council, said:“Sheila was a legend in the party with an incredible depth of knowledge and great passion for encouraging people to get involved.
“She was well-respected by friends from across the political spectrum and will be sorely missed.”
West Scotland MSP Russell Findlay:“As a first-time candidate, I was hugely grateful to Sheila for her advice and knowledge. She is irreplaceable.”
On Friday, April 25, senior Scottish Conservative politicians joined Sheila’s family and hundreds of mourners for her funeral at Woodside Crematorium, with the service conducted by Rev. Jim Gibson of Paisley Abbey.
