Boulton’s blitz secures him another darts crown

-

It was an all-Hagg Bar A affair in the final of the Gibby Bentley Singles in the Paisley and District Darts League on Monday night.

The final 16 players in the tournament gathered to battle it out but it was team-mates Andy Boulton and Den Fitch that fought it out in the end.

Both players had the chance to add the singles title to the Paisley & District Doubles title they had won together.

Boulton came through a last-16 match against Clachan Arrows’David Carmichael, winning on a final-leg decider.

It was another Arrows opponent for him in the quarter-final in the form of ex-champion Mick McDairmid, who he beat 4-1. He also claimed a 4-1 triumph against Paul Hanvidge in the semi-final to book his place in the showpiece.

Fitch strolled his last-16 match against Keystone B’s Tam Norton 4-0. In the quarter-final, he overcame The Midton’s Andy Bryan 4-1 to set up a semi-final with Flying Horse’s John Peacock, which saw him claim another 4-0 whitewash.

In the final, Boulton had the better start, taking leg one in a mere 13 darts. He followed this with legs of 17 and another 13 darts to lead 3-0.

Fitch had a chance to win leg four but missed doubles cost him the leg and Boulton took advantage of the slips to take a 4-0 lead.

Leg five was an 18-dart leg in favour of Boulton and he took the singles title with a very impressive 5-0 scoreline.

It is the second time Boulton has won the singles with the first win coming in season 2017/18 and he joins a select club who have won the league singles and doubles in the same season.

Next week sees the penultimate league fixtures being played with the pick of the games in Division One being at Court Bar where they face The Midton with only a two-point gap between them.

In Division Two, nothing is yet decided and next week’s games between Tartan Rose and Tartan Thunder and Hagg Bar C and Clippens Inn are vital for the teams concerned.
