10-in-a-row for Hagg Bar A’s arrows heroes

-

Hagg Barr A have been crowned champions of the Paisley and District Darts League – their 10th title in a row.

Monday was the penultimate matchday with the undefeated Hagg team securing the Division One championship.

They did so with a triumphant 8-1 victory at New Saints to put them four points clear at the top – meaning their final game will be little more than a coronation.

The loss for New Saints sees them drop to fourth.

Pockets A will finish the season in second place after they went to Arthurlie Inns and inflicted a 9-0 defeat on them. The loss for Arthurlie means they will be relegated to Division Two next year.

The Midton are on the way up the table this week after a hard-fought 6-3 away win at Court Bar that puts them up one place into third. Court Bar went in the opposite direction and are now in sixth position.

Another team on the rise this week are Flying Horse after a 6-3 home win over 10th-placed Hazel Nutz.

The win pushed the Flying Horse team into fifth spot while the loss for Hazel means they will drop out of the division next season.

The last game in the division between Clachan Arrows and Keystone B saw the Arrows team make the most of home advantage, coming through a tough game with a 5-4 win.

The game wasn’t over until the final doubles pairing of Paul Hanvidge and Mick McDairmid ran out 2-0 winners to take the points for their team. The win for Arrows means they keep a hold of seventh place, putting two points between themselves and Keystone in eighth.

The Division Two champions were also crowned this week – Tartan Thunder exacting revenge on their pubmates Tartan Rose for a defeat earlier this season.

The Thunder roared all the way to a brilliant 7-2 win to secure promotion to the top flight for next year. As a result of the loss, Tartan Rose dropped two places and now sit in fifth position, outside of the promotion spots.

Hagg Bar C hold on to second spot this week but their promotion prospects were dealt a blow after a 5-4 home defeat to Clippens Inn, with the win for the Clippens team putting them on the same points as Hagg Bar C but, with the C team holding a better leg difference, they retain the coveted second promotion place while Clippens sit in fourth place.

Gryffe Inn sit in between the Hagg Bar C and Clippens teams, in third place, after a successful trip to Pockets B where they came away with a crucial two points; secured with a last-gasp doubles win for Bryan Hannah and Kevin Blaney. The loss for Pockets B means they will finish the season in eighth spot.

The race for second place is such that there are three teams on the same points total with a total leg difference of only 13 to separate them, meaning the second promotion place will not be decided until the last week of the season. To add even more spice to it, two of the teams – Gryffe Inn and Hagg Bar C – play each other.

The Clachan Bar sit in sixth place, four points away from Tartan Rose, after a fine 7-2 win this week.

Keystone will finish this season in ninth place as they are too many points away from Pockets B in eighth to catch them. Midton Bowling Club stay in seventh place after a 9-0 walkover against Pockets C who have left the league.
