Parchment Craft

THREE STAGES, ONE CARD!

- Designed by Judith Maslen

"I enjoy cutwork, but I also love colouring with blendable pencils, so I used each method to create two different cards… but then I realised they would actually work together to make a double-layered card! Here you have the option of finishing either of the patterns separately or layering them to make one card." Judith

ON THE COLOURED CARD Attach

• Attach the larger piece of parchment on the grid and perforate, emboss and cut the grid border. There will be 16 points along each side.

• Remove from the grid and attach over the pattern.

Trace Step 1

• Using very well sharpened blendable pencils, trace the leaves and the flower. Use pine green for the leaves, middle purple pink for the lighter flower petals and mauve for the darker petals.

Step 2

• Still working on the front of the parchment with the same pencils, add the dark areas of the leaves and the flower with long and short strokes.

Step 3

• With May green, work all over the top of each leaf, blending it into the pine green.

• With light magenta, work all over each lighter petal and use violet over the top of the darker petals.

• If necessary, add to the shaded areas with more pencil strokes.

• Finish by attaching to a piece of light mauve card either with a brad in each corner, or by sewing through some of the lace border with invisible thread.

ON THE CUT CARD

• Attach the smaller piece of parchment onto the grid and perforate, emboss and cut the border. There will be 13 points along each side.

• Remove from the grid and attach over the pattern.

Trace

• Use a white pencil to trace the leaves and the flower.

Emboss

• Turn the parchment to work on the reverse and with a small ball tool emboss all the white pencil lines.

Cut

• Turn the parchment to work on the front and with a two-needle perforating tool work inside each section of the leaves and then cut out. Perforate around the inside of each petal shape in the same way and cut out.

To finish

• Position the cut card over the top of the coloured card and attach through the parchment and the backing card with a small silver brad in each corner. Now stick the completed double card onto a folded white card with double-sided tape.
