Best Phone Brand

OnePlus

HIGHLY COMMENDED GOOGLE

OnePlus and Google retain the top two places in this year’s smartphone award, scoring highly for ease of use and in the “would you buy again?” question.

“OnePlus makes the best smartphones. [They’re] great value for money and have all the features I want/use,” wrote reader Millie Allen. Fred Dreiling was equally pleased with the OnePlus 7 Pro, explaining that it’s “just so awesome” and “hoping OnePlus can update the camera software over the next year to improve it even more”.

Joe Osborne was more guarded about winner OnePlus’s strategy: “Solid products which used to be at a great price but the temptation to capitalise on a brand known for quality products has now made them seem like just another high end smartphone manufacturer.”

Meanwhile, respondents to our survey praised Google’s emphasis on value for money: “The Pixel 3a is perfect for those that can’t afford a Pixel 3 and just want the tech and not the shiny metal body,” recommended Kevin Glendinning. The company is also drawing customers away from other Android brands – users such as Luke Clark: “Recently moved from an older Huawei P10 Lite to a Google Pixel 3 and I absolutely love this phone.”

Elsewhere, the big story is the stratospheric rise of Honor, which is three places above its parent Huawei, and Xiaomi. Oh, and there’s the small matter of Apple finishing in fifth, undone by the second-lowest battery life score.
