TuneUp 2023
AVG TuneUp is a complete optimisation suite for your computer.
It covers all your PC maintenance needs – and by that, we don’t just mean an “empty the temporary folders and delete your browser history” routine.
Rather, AVG TuneUp cleans up behind major applications, locates duplicate files, removes bulky startup programs, warns you about any software that might be slowing down your PC, deactivates unnecessary processes, optimises battery life, suggests changes you could make to speed up your machine, and much more.
If you’re the hands-on type who is comfortable making changes to your system, you can take full control of the optimisations it implements. But if you’re not, you can let the program do most of its work entirely automatically.
AVG TuneUp’s Disk Doctor module is a good place to start. It will scan your drives for errors and report what should be fixed – if anything – and how it should be handled.
One thing that can make a big difference to your computer’s performance is how much space you have on your boot drive. Too little, and it may not be able to efficiently shuffle its temporary data. But merely deleting files to make space (after backing them up) isn’t always wise, as the files can remain in situ for weeks, and could be recovered should anyone gain unauthorised access to your system. Instead, use the Shredder tool, which can wipe your files and folders once and for all. When it’s finished, the data will be unrecoverable.
Elsewhere, you’ll find a comprehensive System Information module, as well as a powerful Registry Editor with which advanced users can manually dig into the registry to solve potential issues.
There’s a Software Updater that can scan your system and check for new versions of installed programs – and it’s up to you whether it notifies you of updates or quietly downloads and installs them in the background.
Handing over control like this isn’t something you should need to worry about, either, as the Rescue Centre module will be tracking every change, optimisation tweak and update in the background. Should anything go wrong, it can quickly return your PC to its previous state, undoing its changes in the process.
