Timing discs

Performance Bikes (UK) - - The Garage | 360º Garage -

‘It is critical on a Norton to get its valve and ignition timing absolutely perfect, so I use timing discs all the time. If you are just a bit off you lose all the power. The opening is accurate down to thousands of an inch, that’s how precise you need to be when you are racing. Each cam is on an adjuster and the main cam is also on one, so there is a lot of fiddle room! I can take half a day to set up a motor if I’ve never worked on it before, but if I know the motor I can do it in a few hours. It’s a very intensive job and you need to continually strip and rebuild the motor. I’ll be honest, though – I really enjoy doing it.’
