I’M A HUGE fan of the R1M. I love it to bits, I really do. It’s only a shame that it’s here with the Panigale V4 S, otherwise, the odds are I would always go for the Yamaha. The R1M is the epitome of cool and quality. It’s properly trick, and finished off with a long list of neat touches. Then there is the crossplane engine. It’s taken a while, but I’ve eventually got my head round it and really appreciate it.
However, the Panigale V4 scares the shit out of me, and whatever about the technology, innovation, image, lap times or dyno curves, that’s the thing that matters most to me. I will never be good enough for that bike. It is amazing, and sits alongside bikes like the Kawasaki H2R and Honda RC213V-S as bikes that I’ll never forget the first time I rode one. It’s as simple as that for me.
