There’s a comfort in having certain items tucked away ready for moments that require a very specific something: this beaten-up tube of crankcase sealant is a favourite.

Bought initially to stick the gasket in place around the boost port on my TZR250 (the narrow sections occasionally blow out), I used a good amount assembling my RGV, and it’s since been invaluable for emergency fixes (enforced re-use of gaskets) and belt and braces sealed assembly (stopping oily spooge leaking from manifolds on expansion chambers). Plenty of similar products are available, but this is the only one that consistently resists heat, fuel or oil. I’ve kept it in the box as instructed, and it’s still perfect to use – even a perforation in the tube hasn’t been a problem, the oozed sealant has just cured and sealed it up...
