BMW S1000RR SAM BUDDEN
Sorted S1000RR and rapid FZR400/YZF600 hybrid lead this month’s readers’ rides.
G’DAY FROM Down Under. I own an MV Agusta 312RR, and a BMW S1000RR Race. Here’s the Beemer... When I first test rode it, everyone who knew me thought I’d hate it as I was an Italian-only enthusiast (my first bike was an Aprilia RS250). But all of the hype is true! It really is a ridiculously easy motorcycle to ride fast.
Perhaps I’ve gone a tad soft in my old age (I’m 34...), but I love the cruise control, auto-blipper/ quickshifter, and (Lord help me) the heated grips. I couldn’t live without any of these things now.
But I can live without the intrusive electronics. It’s lucky you can turn off the ABS and use Slick mode so you can actually ride it (we don’t get too much rain down here).
I reckon the stock bike is pretty ugly, so I’ve had to do quite a lot to get it to something half pleasing to the eye. The mods include tinted headlight covers, tinted Zero Gravity Corsa screen, Pazzo levers, flush mounted indicators, an integrated smoked tail light, Hotbodies racing tail, R&G rad/oil guards and custom paint to try to blend the ‘shark gills’. It also has a Taylormade Racing full system set up with a PC5.
Subtly done, Sam. Subtly done...
