Saffron Hare, creative director at fabric house James Hare, shares the inspiration behind the new Gardyne collection
Tell us about James Hare’s latest collection
The Gardyne collection takes its name from the old English word for garden, and draws on the charm of designs, patterns, flora and gardens from the late 16th and 17th centuries to bring warmth, personality and elegance into the home. Coloured in fresh, harmonious tones of blue, green, terracotta and pink, complemented by neutrals and crisp whites, Gardyne is a range of plains, prints and embroideries, which weave their way throughout an interior seamlessly with scale and fabric weight variety. At the centre of the collection is our hero fabric, Elizabeth, which is an exciting new design developed to capture the beauty of Elizabethan hand embroidery.
Perfectly timed for those alfresco suppers of hearty summer salads and showstopping pavlovas, Anthropologie has unveiled an exclusive new range of serveware in collaboration with British cook and food writer Skye Mcalpine. Best known for her Sunday Times column and cookbook A Table in Venice, Skye drew on her two loves of Venice and London for the collection by mixing Italian influences and traditional pottery techniques with inspiration from English antique fine china. The result is a range of 10 pieces in two distinct designs, splatter glazed and botanical vintage style, which includes a statement splatter cake stand and floral platter ideal for those buffet lunches.
