Selecting a style
Find the perfect bed frame with our guide
UPHOLSTERED – A padded frame covered in either a soft fabric, often chenille or cotton, or leather. Creating a cosy, casual look to a room, it is the perfect choice if you like relaxing in bed with a book. A buttoned headboard or scrolled baseboard adds interest and detail to this design.
WROUGHT IRON OR BRASS – Highly durable and low-maintenance, both of these metals have a classic look that never goes out of style. They are often used together to create intricate designs with bright metallic detailing. Plus, metal beds are lighter than many upholstered or wooden styles.
WOODEN – Whether you want to complete a restful Scandi sanctuary or to make a statement in a traditional room scheme, then a wooden bed is the perfect fit. Hardwearing and elegant, wooden frames are available to suit a wide range of budgets, from high-quality oak to pine. They can also be painted to add a pop of colour to your space.
SLEIGH – With a high headboard and footboard, sleigh beds create an instant statement. You can achieve a range of looks with this flexible style, which is available in wood, rattan or upholstered. However, a bed with a footboard might not be the best choice if you are particularly tall.
DAYBED – Ideal for studies, spare rooms and garden rooms, a daybed is a versatile piece of furniture that combines a bed and a sofa. It can be used for sitting, lounging, relaxing or sleeping, making it a great solution for a guest bed.
STORAGE BED – Of all your furniture, the bed takes up the most floor space, so put it to good use with a design that incorporates clever storage solutions. An ottoman-style bed has a lift-up frame that conceals compartments within its solid base. Alternatively, a divan design has several drawers, ideal for storing bedding out of sight.
CANOPY – The classic four-poster bed is a symbol of opulence. Pair with delicately draped fabric for a feminine look or leave bare to show off the sleek architectural lines. Although they come in a range of sizes, you will need a fairly large room with high ceilings to avoid overwhelming the space.
