To provide a finishing touch to our home-built veranda, I asked my husband Richard to make a wroughtiron screen to bridge the gap between the roof of the veranda and the fence – this is what he came up with (top). The tools making up the screen were all scrap and completely rusted, so it’s a great way to give them a second life. The gate was made from the offcuts along with spanners dating from the 1950s. I absolutely love it and it adds to the ‘country gothic’ style of our house. Helen Jensen
