GARDEN TREASURES WATERPERRY GARDENS, OXFORD
Waterperry Gardens was the home of Beatrix Havergal’s ladies’ horticultural college from 1932 to 1971, and the legacy of her work lives on in elements such as the classical herbaceous border with its glorious palette of colours over three periods of flowering. The gardens have been much developed in ensuing years to now boast many more ornamental delights, while restored 18th-century buildings house an art gallery and Museum of Rural Life. Plus, Handmade Oxford Contemporary Arts Festival returns there from 16-19 September. Open daily. Entry (gardens only), adult £8.95, child free. Tel: 01844 339254; waterperrygardens.co.uk
